McTIMONEY CHIROPRACTOR Graham Morland-Smith
a chiropractic session in Blandford Dorset,
Glastonbury & Bath Somerset
Last night 16th March 2006 I attended another form of unusual alternative healing in Dorset UK.
It is now known as McTimoney Chiropractic. John McTimoney began this form of healing back in
the 1950's after needing a chiropractor himself. Originally an engineer he trained rigorously for
3 years to develop adjustment techniques known as the toggle recoil effect, developing his own variation on this theme.
McTimoney chiropractic technique uses a light yet very fast movement by the chiropractor on the body.
This allows the body to react by itself. There is no actual pressure just a gentle persuasion just a gentle movement which
encourages the bone to return to its correct positioning without the usual force on a bone or joint as in normal
chiropractic. My appointment began with the usual discussion about previous health and any prior accidents etc.
My blood pressure and heart beat were measured. My eyes were extensively tested for the blind spot that everyone has
and reaction to light etc. I had to perform several walking tests to test my balance. Well, if I were stopped by the police
and asked to perform the usual drink-drive test of putting one foot in front of the other, I would fail! I was actually
unaware my balance was so 'off'.
The McTimoney treatment was fully explained to me, how it is to be performed, what effect it may have on me. Any contra-indications it may invoke. After some further tests and being asked if I was happy to proceed with the McTimoney treatment I happily agreed to go ahead with the treatment. The room was very warm and quiet with a nice relaxing aroma. I was asked to relax on the bed on my back. My unlevel pelvis was out and was worked on first. I was waiting for the usual cracks and crunches of chiropractic, but it wasn't forthcoming. In a few movements, my pelvis position was reassessed and my ankle bones seemed level! Okay so far so good.
The McTimoney Chiropractor worked my entire body including my very tight shoulders and a point about mid-way down my spine, all the time I was expecting some sort of cracking or discomfort, it wasn't forthcoming! I have a lot of painful trigger points around my shoulder blade and colar bone and wasn't looking forward to him working them, yet again I felt no discomfort.
Whilst I was laying comfortably on my front, the chiropractor worked on my spine and back. The noise of this McTimoney chiropractic is quite loud and sounds like I'm being slapped quite violently, yet the feeling is quite the opposite. Obviously I couldn't see what what going on behind me, but I did find my imagination going a tad wild and it was making me smile through the hole in the bed where my head was resting! Finally when the full treatment was over, I was asked in my own time to sit on the edge of the bed so that the chiropractor could check his work. I slowly raised myself off the bed and felt nicely lightheaded and happy. There is no being rushed out of the room to make way for the next patient, I was asked how I felt as he checked my new position. He was happy with our work and how my body had reacted to this treatment. I was given further advise as to what not to do over the next couple of days, he advised me to allow my body to heal itself and not to cross my legs! I was informed that perhaps it would have the effect of making my body ache a lot over the next couple of days and that would be perfectly normal and that I shouldn't try to stretch out or counter any aches.
How I actually felt is like I wished to go wild and dance around!
Last night I was feeling very cold so I went to bed early and cuddled myself into my feather duvet. I fell asleep almost immediately and awoke early feeling very refreshed. For the first time in a long time, I remembered my dream! And the dream was a very nice and relaxed one! How my body feels today is like another nice release, more fluid movements but my neck is still aching. It is a different sort of ache than usual, it is a cold ache and not a deep hot throbbing ache as usual! I can cope with that!
My opinion of McTimoney Chiropractic Chiropractor, try it, you and your body will love it!
Next appointment in Dorset next Thursday.
Another appointment today and my spine is beginning to be very straight again. I am holding my head up almost as it was before the accident, holding your head up automatically puts a smile on your face and gives you your confidence back! So today I am very happy. I noticed that after the appointment when I got into the car, I was sitting better. My pelvis has stayed 'in place'. This chiropractic treatment is working and, with miraculous speed!
